Dominick Matsko (DJ) is a graduate of Boston University’s College of Fine Arts under the instruction of baritone Jerrold Pope. In addition to his private studies, he coached with Peter Sykes and Martin Pearlman as a singer in the BU Baroque Chamber Ensemble. He served as the baritone choral scholar of the Marsh Chapel Choir at Marsh Chapel of Boston University from 2013 to 2016. In 2014, he was a soloist with Music at Marsh Chapel’s performance of Bach’s Mass in B Minor at Marsh Chapel and at Trinity Church on Wall Street in Manhattan. He also traveled with members of the Marsh Chapel Choir to San Diego, California to perform with Bach Collegium San Diego in November 2014. DJ has sung with several other Boston area ensembles including Boston Baroque, Genesis Chamber Singers, Cappella Clausura, and the Newton Community Chorus.
DJ holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with tenor Stephen Ng and soprano Anne Gross. He gained his choral knowledge and experience from David P. DeVenney, with whom he studied conducting and choral literature. In 2010, Dominick revived the role of Ruggiero in West Chester University Opera’s production of La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina, an early Baroque opera written by Francesca Caccini, accompanied by a period chamber ensemble. In preparation, he coached with soprano Julianne Baird and countertenor Drew Minter on early Baroque vocal technique. In 2013, he performed the role of Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with West Chester University Opera and Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Dr. DeVenney. DJ currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
