Renaissance Men announces Tyler Graham Chester, Alex Venguer production team for new album.

Renaissance Men, New England's professional male vocal chamber ensemble, will record their third commercial album, RenMentality, in April 2022, under the Navona Records label. Grammy-nominated producer, multi-instrumentalist, and recording artist Tyler Graham Chester has been named the album's executive producer, with Grammy and Latin-Grammy award winning Alex Venguer as lead sound engineer. Sessions will be held at Church of the Redeemer in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, and Ghost Hit Studios in West Springfield, Massachusetts.

"When we developed this program in 2017 it was such a unique musical experience in uneasy times," said Eric Christopher Perry, Renaissance Men's Artistic Director and conductor. "When we decided to record RenMentality it was important for us to choose producers whose work reflected the the art and essence of this non-traditional, more popular-music focused choral album. To work with Tyler and Alex, whose sound worlds tell real stories and who have worked with artists we drew so much sonic influence from in the curation of the repertoire, is so inspiring for us."

According to Tyler Graham Chester's website, "Tyler’s production credits include Madison Cunningham, Sara Bareilles, Apple TVs “little Voice”, Margaret Glaspy, Carsie Blanton, Tyson Motsenbocker, Laura Jean Anderson, Sam Weber, James Henry Jr, Lovelite, Jon Foreman, Switchfoot, Andrew Belle, to name a few. He’s also toured with Jackson Browne, Blake Mills, Sara Watkins, Andrew Bird, George Ezra, Margaret Glaspy, and many others, and has appeared on television with Rufus Wainwright, Foy Vance, and Mandy Moore. Tyler has played on records with many artists including Joan Baez, Jackson Browne, Andrew Bird, Amy Helm, Sara Watkins, Margaret Glaspy, Julian Lage, Hayes Carll, and Christina Aguilera. His compositions have been licensed far and wide for documentaries, television ads, and podcasts, including the music for the award-winning Liturgists Podcast, which boasts millions of monthly listeners."

According to Alex Venguer's website, he has worked with such artists as Sting, John Legend, Maria Schneider, Marcus Miller, Aretha Frankiln, Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Renee Fleming, Juan Luis Guerra, Herbie Hancock, Lady Gaga, Woody Allen, Philip Glass, Christian McBride, Cassandra Wilson, Sufjan Stevens, Regina Spektor, Train, Punch Brothers, My Brightest Diamond, Loudon, Martha and Rufus Wainwright, John Patitucci, Hildur Guonadottir, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Carter Burwell. Two years later, in 2020 he won his second Latin Grammy for Gustavo Casenave’s album “Fuelle y Cuerda” (Best Tango Album) and his third Grammy for his work on the score for the film “Joker” (Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media). He’s also been involved in various other Grammy winning and nominated albums such as Maria Schneider's "Sky Blue", John Legend's "Evolver" and the song "Shine," Punch Brother's "The Phosphorescent Blues" as well as the cast albums for the Broadway productions of "Shrek" and "9 to 5" and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble “Sing Me Home” which he helped produce and record."

RenMentality highlights the intersection of vocal music and mental health. It features music for low voices by composers historically known to experience mental health conditions. Included are covers of songs by Brian Wilson and Nirvana, along with traditional choral music by Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, Beethoven, and Monteverdi. Also featured is the world-premiere recording of Jay Mobley's "When I Look Back," a work co-commissioned by Renaissance Men and the National Alliance on Mental Illness Massachusetts, whose work reflects texts taken from interviews with those with lived experience. Mobley will also serve as an assistant producer as well as provide vocals across the album.

RenMentality's anticipated release will be late-2022 with subsequent national touring in support of the album. For more information please visit www.renmenmusic.com or email info@renaissance-men.com.
